WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a powerful spiritual practice that utilizes energy healing to bring about balance and harmony within the body, mind, and spirit. This ancient practice traces its roots back to Japan in the early 20th century, where it was founded by Mikao Usui.
The word "Reiki" comes from the Japanese words "rei," which means "universal," and "ki," which means "life force energy." This life force energy flows through all living things and is the foundation of our well-being. However, due to stress, trauma, and other factors, this energy can become blocked or stagnant, leading to physical and emotional imbalances.
Mikao Usui was a spiritual seeker who was searching for a way to heal himself and others. He spent many years studying ancient texts and spiritual practices, and after a profound spiritual experience on a mountain, he received the gift of Reiki. Usui dedicated the rest of his life to teaching and sharing Reiki with others, and his teachings have since spread throughout the world.
Reiki is based on the idea that the practitioner can channel universal life force energy through their hands to the recipient, helping to clear blockages and promote healing. During a Reiki session, the recipient lies down fully clothed, while the practitioner places their hands on or near various parts of the body, allowing the energy to flow where it is needed most. This gentle, non-invasive practice can help to alleviate physical pain, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and promote overall well-being.
Reiki is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and self-discovery, and it can be used in conjunction with other spiritual practices such as meditation and yoga. By bringing balance and harmony to the body, mind, and spirit, Reiki can help us to connect with our true selves and unlock our full potential. If you are seeking a deeper connection with yourself and the universe, Reiki may be just what you need. With its ancient roots and powerful healing potential, Reiki is a valuable tool for anyone on a spiritual journey.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
During a Reiki session, a trained practitioner who has been attuned to the practice becomes a channel for concentrated life force energy, directing it through their hands to the recipient. The practitioner works to infuse the recipient's energy field with positive energy, helping to restore a healthy and balanced flow of life energy throughout the body.
Reiki aims to reinstate the natural energetic equilibrium in the body that may have become disrupted or imbalanced due to stress, injury, or illness. Every individual responds to Reiki differently, as the attuned energy is directed to the areas of the body that require it most.
Reiki treatment is a process that is accessible to anyone, regardless of age or illness level, and can be integrated with other conventional or complementary treatments. It is often known to provide emotional support during recovery.
VIRTUAL REIKI: DOES IT WORK?
To begin a virtual Reiki session, I invite you to find a quiet and comfortable space where you can relax and let go of any distractions. You may also wish to light a candle or some incense, and set an intention for your healing and growth. Once connected through a video platform like Zoom, you will be asked to sit or lie down, close your eyes, and breathe deeply. As you inhale, your energy will start to flow and fill up. The practitioner will use visualization techniques and direct their hands towards the areas of your body that need attention, or observe and listen to your body's energy with their eyes closed.
Throughout the session, you may experience sensations such as tingling, pulsing, lightness, or relaxation in specific areas of your body. These sensations may come and go during the session, and if your thoughts become overwhelming, the physical sensations may subside. It is essential to focus on your breathing to stay on track during the session.
Even if you do not feel any physical sensations during the session, the effects of Reiki may show up as subtle shifts in your day or week. By the end of the session, you should feel more relaxed, alert, and calmer, and you can look forward to a better night's sleep. After the session, you will have the opportunity to discuss how you felt and what the practitioner observed. Reiki can be just as effective virtually as it is in person, and physical proximity is not necessary for the practice to work.
